During the months of October and November, Hipoges’ CSR initiatives were focused on Pink October and Movember. The Pink October refers to the Breast Cancer Month, on which the 19th is specifically dedicated to the International Day Against Breast Cancer. Movember, a term created by the amalgamation of theEnglish words mustache and November, is celebrated throughout November and aims to support the fight against mental illness in men, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Because of these strong reasons to reflect upon and give a hand of help, Hipoges did not want to miss the opportunity to contribute its share and create various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and thus create greater awareness and sensibility towards these issues.
International Day Against Breast Cancer at Hipoges
The main goal of the Hipoges CSR initiatives during October was to raise awareness and inform all people who work in the company and/or who belong to our online community about Breast Cancer and encourage prevention and early diagnosis.
Breast Cancer is the type of cancer that most attacks women. Every year, more than 7.000 new cases of this tumor are identified in Portugal, 30.000 in Spain. To help early detection and create greater awareness for personal health, Hipoges offered to inform society a little more.
Many indications show that this cancer has haunted humanity since its dawn. Some descriptions were found of this disease, around 1600 BC., even without being specifically called “cancer”.
Through its CSR program, Hipoges did not want to miss the opportunity to join another Pink October, and, in order to raise awareness and combat this disease, shared during the month of October some informative graphics on Breast Cancer, both internally and externally (on its LinkedIn profile), under the slogan #HipogesAgainstBreastCancer.
In addition, internally Hipoges took the opportunity to have an informative video on Breast Cancer on the screens in the offices.
Blue November at Hipoges
Movember, as we discussed at the beginning of this article, is the combination ofthe words mustache and November, from English.
This movement emerged in the late 1990s, and sought to raise awareness among society about Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and, in general, about male health issues. However, it was in 2003 that a group called “Original 30” began to stop shaving their moustaches or beards to raise funds for the Movember Foundation. This way, every person who’s facial hair was left to grow contributed with $10 to the cause. This simple initiative has caused Movember to expand globally and to a raise more than $60 million.
After Pink October, Hipoges also wanted to participate with initiatives for Blue Movember, sharing with its team the following actions:
- We shared internal information on men’s health
- We have created an awareness video and reproduced it on the screens at the offices
- We created the Blue Dress Code during the week of November 14th-18th. During these days the people working with Hipoges wore a piece of blue clothes, later taking a photograph, in order to better celebrate this very important month.
